Third International VLBI Technology Workshop

RadioNet3 ERATec Engineering Special Session

hosted by the Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe

10 - 13 November 2014, Groningen/Dwingeloo, the Netherlands

Venue & Accommodation

The city of Groningen, with 200000 inhabitants the largest in the North of the Netherlands, is a lively cultural and commercial regional center with a rich history. It has the second-oldest University in the Netherlands, founded in 1614. In all some 50000 students are enrolled in several higher educational institutes (and as a consequence, Groningen also has a rather well-developed night life). Among its many attractions, make sure you check out the fully restored 19th century central train station hall (when arriving by train). Located on an island in the canal in front of the station, the post-modernistic Groninger Museum, designed by Alessandro Mendini, is well worth visiting.

Unfortunately, the weather in the Netherlands in November can be rather bleak and wet, and cold, so make sure to take warm clothes (and an umbrella). Of course this November will be sunny and wonderful...

The venue of the workshop will be the NH hotel in Groningen, located quite close to the city center, at the Hanzeplein 132. Click here for more information.

A block reservation of hotel rooms at a reduced rate of 99 euro per night will be held until the 5th of September. After that date availability of rooms is not guaranteed. To make a reservation, contact the hotel via telephone (+31207956081) or email (book.groningen@nh-hotels.com) and mention the reference "JIVE".

On Tuesday November 11 the venue will be the new auditorium at the ASTRON/JIVE headquarters in Dwingeloo. Bus transport from and to the hotel will be provided.

Groningen is easily reachable by train with hourly direct connections from Schiphol Airport (www.ns.nl). The trip takes a little over two hours. Once arrived at Groningen Central Station, you can either take a taxi or a bus, no. 8 or 22, to the hospital (UMCG), which is 100 meters from the hotel. Single ride bus tickets can be bought on board for 2 euro.
