The European VLBI Network will continue its successful online seminars, showcasing the power of VLBI in astronomical research. In the first half of 2025, the EVN hosted two engaging talks that presented cutting-edge VLBI results relevant to the broader astronomical community. These seminars covered innovative approaches and the potential of interferometers to reinvent SETI (by Michael Garrett), as well as how to explore multi-messenger astronomy with current observatories and future frontiers (by Marica Branchesi).
More than a hundred participants tuned in to watch the talks in real time, demonstrating the strong interest in VLBI techniques and results across the astronomical community. Even more remarkably, the recorded sessions have already accumulated over 700 views on YouTube, highlighting the enduring value of these presentations for researchers and enthusiasts alike long after the live events.
Two new EVN seminars will be held this fall:
- Miguel Pérez-Torres (IAA-CSIC) will speak on Thursday, 6 November, at 11:00 CET about new and exciting transient sources unveiled by VLBI.
- Sandor Frey (Konkoly Observatory, HUN-REN Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences) will speak on Friday, 5 December, about VLBI and Gaia astrometry in the service of AGN astrophysics.
You can read summaries of their talks on the EVN webpage.
